SWIs: A starting point for families

Research-China continues to gather information and pictures of China's social welfare institutes (SWIs) that allow international adoptions. As it becomes available (we need your help -- see below), we are compiling that information on individual SWI pages. We hope this information will serve as starting points for adoptive families to learn about that orphanage and obtain information and resources for their children.

We hope each SWI page will eventually include a description of the orphanage, brief history, staff members, adoption statistics, photos, mailing address, related links and other information. We also will have provincial information as well. If you have information to contribute to a SWI page, please contact us. Read more below.

Also note that China's SWIs are located in cities, counties and districts, but that these entities are structured differently than in the West. Click here to read about China's City, County and District Structure.

Click on your child's province on the map or in the list to see what information we have for your child's social welfare institute. If no link is available on the map here or on the province page, that means we're not yet done compiling that SWI's information.

We need your help:

For many of the SWIs, we're missing information and hope you'll contribute. E-mail us any information or photos you could add to benefit other families. To see an example of the type of information we're looking for, see the SWI page for Dianbai, Guangdong Province. We are particularly interested in orphanage photos (current and previous), director photo with name and tenure information, and any miscellaneous information. We will be happy to credit you as the source for any information or photo you submit; just let us know your wishes.
